I waited for you there, but I couldn't find your face
Except for once or twice a month on such sunny days
I waited there for half a year, hardly a trace
Of doubt that we would spend our lives in each other's embrace
I'd call out for you and you'd call my name
It was rarely very reassuring, but I'd smile all the same

Then one day I found you - "Rejoice, my love is safe!"
But tears were in your eyes and soon to mine they came
My world was ripped inside out and burst into flame
My smile, not my love, gave way to sadness, anger, and shame
But in some time, our tears, they dried and were replaced
By lights in our eyes, our friendship can survive if we change it
And so we part our ways, explorers into space
Happy in the knowledge that this isn't the end and we can meet again as friends in that place
